What do people usually not know about you?

Oorvi Desai: I guess people wouldn’t be aware of how much it takes to create that one piece of a unique design with an eye-for-detail and sometimes compare it with the products readily available in the commercial market for clothing. Pricing does play a major role whilst comparing Couture Clothing & Commercial Clothing. I have always had a very transparent approach with all my clients which I am proud of.

What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?

Oorvi Desai: I have never been a fan of getting into the ‘rat-race’ with any of my competitors. I believe every designer has a unique talent and eye for creativity. We all need to embrace that reality and co-exist. I strongly believe that one needs to always be aware of what’s ’new’ and ’trending’ as fashion is constantly evolving and one needs to have a very open-eye for the same.

What are your upcoming major events – Unforgettable Moments or products/services that you want to promote/inform?

Oorvi Desai: I recently signed a contract as the Fashion Supplier for a Bollywood Drama Theatre Show – Mrs Kapoor’s Daughter’s Wedding 2- Mauritius. The cast would showcase outfits from the Bridal and the Wedding Guest Collection on stage, and the show will be performed in various parts of the UK.

Couturier, costume stylist, entrepreneur, and revivalist, Oorvi Desai, specializes in regal yet modern partywear with a strong focus on bridal design. Her bespoke cosmopolitan South-Asian collections overflow from within her store: a bustling boutique, based in Eastcote of North West London. A well-traveled and diligent fashionista, Oorvi’s journey first began with her flagship store in Malabar Hill in South Mumbai; India’s major stylish hub. There, she has been prior awarded Best Textile Designer in Mumbai by Bombay Dyeing & Mfg Company Limited, later personally styling many indie celebrities.

Today, in her shop, you can spy traditional silks, playful chiffon and nets, and sleek satin: through the versatility of a variety of quality materials Oorvi is able to uniquely “capture the personality of clients,” dazzlingly accentuating certain moods through the careful combination of popping colors too. Whether it is a Pastel-pink or Mint-green glittery Lehenga, a Bottle-green Anarkali or even a bright Banana-yellow jumpsuit, the rising designer infuses the dramatic dynamism of Hollywood into any big lifestyle event.

“I love working with brides in particular,” she told us: “as they unequivocally want what’s best. I am also naturally very attentive to detail”. Indeed, this seems the perfect setting to create mutually tactile magic! “Actually, I’m very familiar with the fundamental characteristics of fabrics,” she continued, “having grown up around a dad and grandad who were very much into textiles which influenced me to study the subject. I know exactly the right material to suit any environment e.g., the beach, countryside etc.” However, Oorvi made sure to comment: Confidence is the best style.

British Indian fashion designer and entrepreneur Oorvi Desai has made a mark for herself within the fashion and entertainment industry.

Boasting impressive accomplishments in the fashion world – be it starting her own bespoke luxury and wedding wear brand ‘Oorvi Desai’ or her upcoming collaboration with Vallisa Chauhan, who showcased her outfits at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2023 – Desai recently teamed up with Archana Kapoor’s AK Bollywood Dance for their latest theatrical venture ‘Mrs Kapoor’s Daughter’s Wedding 2 – Mauritius’.

Desai is the fashion supplier for the production, currently on tour across the UK, and her outfits will feature as one of the focal points in the wedding scene. The popular Bollywood-inspired show is replete with vibrant dance sequences, live singing, and comic sketches.

To find out more about this exciting venture and her other projects, iGlobal caught up with Desai for a chat.

Q: Tell us more about your work on ‘Mrs Kapoor's Daughter's Wedding 2 – Mauritius’.

A: It's a hilarious, laugh-out-comedy show that's running across the UK. Its central theme is Bollywood drama dance, and it's very much related to Indian outfits and Bollywood. I have designed all the outfits for the wedding scene for the entire cast. They're wearing all designer outfits from my collection.
